I have made a whole heap of electronics and programming tutorials over the years and I thought it was about time that I let you guys know of a sure fire way to smash your smartphone’s glass digitiser.
It’s quite simple really, when you’re working with some wood, nails and a hammer – be sure to place your phone down on the workbench. Then (and this is the slightly tricky part) without even looking at what you are doing – place some wood down on the bench – on top of your phone. Even though you might have a huge work area (like me) be sure to only use the space where your phone is located otherwise this next bit won’t work.
Now, with your phone on the bench AND your length of wood on the phone, proceed to hammer some nails into the wood. Take the wood away, and your done! Your not so old smartphone is now sporting an eye catching ‘cracked glass’ look.
Well, that’s precisely what I did today, I was doing a little bit of handy work and decided that my phone was annoying me sitting in my pocket – it was getting in the way of my work. So I took it out of my pocket and placed it on my workbench. I then went on with my project, grabbed the wood that I needed to work with, lined it all up so it was just right (little did I know that my perfect alignment of the wood happened to coincide with the location of my phone). I then happily hammered away, put the wood to one side, went to check my phone for the time and that was that.
Note to self – don’t do that again.
Just to let you know. If your screen is cracked and Functional Just place a one of those Ballistic glass – Screen protectors on it and you keep the function & cracked look WithOut the finger cutting. Tech Armor makes very good ones too. It has saved my $500 Galaxy S5 4 times already and with Lifetime replacements.
@Stacy – Sometimes it’s good to just get back to basics and pull out the ol’ hammer, sure I could have spent 99c on an app to get the effect – but this way I get to spend about $150 on a screen replacement. For me it was a no brainer.
You do realize there are APPs available that make your phone look like it has cracked glass. It sure seems like you went though a lot of trouble just to save $0.99 cents on a phone APP. Hmmm… Hope all is well.
