Sound problems

I just got around to program my SPB and everything looks good and dandy...

Sound? not so much.

First I got no sound... Turning the speaker around quickly took care of the problem, but now I get a high pitch sound constantly coming from the speaker.

Looking at the part list i realized that itead studio replaced the P2N2222A with a SS8050 and the emitter and collector on these are inverted.

So I turned it around but i get the same problem.

Did I fried my transistor?, any ideas?

That does sound strange and I don't know why they are giving you non-standard parts (especially when the pinout is different). Are you able to post a youtube video of what it does so I can hear it?

I took it apart to troubleshoot, I think I may have a P2N222A at home (I'm working... NOT, lol). I'll put it back together and post a video it if it's still doing it.

I have built this kit and I was supplied with a S8050 transistor instead of 2N2222A, I fitted the transistor with the flat face towards the bottom of the board, same as the marking on the pcb mask and all working fine.

Both Transistors that ive found on the datasheets have the same pin outs.

I checked the transistor with my multimeter and looks ok. So I'll resolder the whole thing and post a video ASAIC.

This is the data sheet that I found on digikey for the 2N2222A:

No worries, the datasheet from digikey relates to a P2N2222A.
the part list on iteadstudio relate to:

★ 1 x 2n2222a NPN Transistor - we provide the S8050 NPN Transistor instead.

The 2n2222a is a slightly different package to the p2n2222a, I think thats where there is a little confusion here

Very interesting. Do you have the eight pin socketed? If so, does the sound completely stop when you remove it?

I am quite sure it would have to be a problem with the audio chip itself or the code. I can post the audio chip hex file for you on here so you can try and reprogram it, otherwise i can send you a new chip if that doesnt fix it.

Of course the chip is not on a socket, that would be way too easy... lol

That was my next suspect, after checking the transistor and verifying it was not shorted, and also verifying no shorts or bridges anywhere.

I'll take the sucker out and post the results, I really appreciate the help.

HANG ON GUYS!

I remember mine doing this, heres a video of mine. I have my sound chip socketed, and ive tried it without and the sound/buzzing disappears. Brad can you up load the sound hex file and I will try and reprogramme the sound chip ?

Definitively there is something going on here, I fell better knowing I'm not the only one, so we can figure this out together.

I'm heating on my iron and grabbing my desoldering braid as I'm typing this.

Will I be able to reprogram this chip with my pickit 2?

You can use the pickit2 to programme the Soundchip (12F617) but there are some changes that you have to do with the pickit 2 device file, some info is here viewtopic.php?f=31&t=520

But I would hold fire on this at the moment untill we have found the issue.

Now this is really strange!

Two people having the exact same problem. I haven't experienced this at all...

You can reprogram it with a pickit 2, here is the pinout:

Ok ive tried to reprogramme the Soundchip with the Hex file above but its still the same
