It's too bad this technology is having such problems. Hopefully they'll eventually get worked out. It has a good energy- and size-to-weight ratio, but is about three times as expensive as lead-acid for a given amount of energy, is apparently not recyclable, and has been showing itself to be somewhat dangerous. Its benefits best fit mobile applications like electric cars and portable electronics, whereas deep-cycle flooded lead-acid seems to work a lot better for backup for houses, cell sites, etc. where there's space and the weight doesn't matter. I put in a small solar system so we would have electricity if the utility goes down (in clear weather). Reviewers who took care of Interstate flooded deep-cycle lead-acid golf-cart batteries I got said that they were still doing fine after 20 years in solar installations.
